well basically, everything for our project that had to be done together is completed. Only two things left that I have to work on is the reflection paper as well the evaluation assessment assignment.

So far, I have completed my section for the Interrogate Genre. I also added a few minor things to out Power Point presentation as far as pictures and a resource slide. These additions weren’t a lot but i plan on adding more to it today. I wasn’t able to do too much since I had a major final today and I didn’t get any sleep because I put most of my focus on the exam. However, I did set aside time to work on my end of the assignment even if it wasn’t extensive.

so far for Unit 4, we have begun the PowerPoint and looked up information and resources to incorporate in our presentation. I wish to do more work between now and Monday.

The genre sample used has a discourse community set up of people in the field of medicine. This discourse community set values and beliefs on making sure patients receive accurate prescriptions and are informed about what brand they are receiving as well. I’m able to tell that whoever fills out the prescription form has a lot of responsibility by observing a signature on the form. If anything was to go wrong, it would be on the person who signed the prescription form. This particular discourse community works with patients and have to make sure their patients understand whats being told to them and follow directions well. This prescription form is very blunt (ex: refill 2 times, 1 daily a.m. etc) to ensure that the customer fulfills the basic requirements of the prescription.

On February 13, 2012 I was introduced to Unit 2 and had a confused look on my face as to what exactly was to be done. I was told by my instructor to begin to make a list of professions that are related to my field. This was easy to me and kind of interesting as well. After I was finished listing the different professions I stopped because I didn’t know what to do next. I decided to look in the student folders to view the other requirements so I could get a better understanding of it. When I seen that I had to explain the requirements to become these professions as well as what their duties were, I immediately headed to Google. After getting started on explaining the different requirements, I asked Ms. Kumavie if everything I was doing was correct. After assisting me and answering my questions, I went back on Google to look up some more requirements for my professions listed. I then asked Ms. Kumavie again if I was now doing everything that was expected of me. Class was over at 9:50 and then I was now headed to my next class in Moulton Hall. I forgot about the assignment and when it was time to meet again in class I had forgot about the assignment and felt bad for not working on it at home and still having to pick up on what i left off from the class before. A few days later, I still didn’t work on the project outside of the classroom. I kept putting the assignment off. The weekend that I said I would start on the project I went to Chicago and therefore didn’t begin on it at all. My mission was to go to Milner Library immediately after getting back to Normal and settling in. When I arrived and began to work on not only ENG 145 but also MUS 154, I heard an announcement, “Library closes in 15 minutes”. The whole time, I thought the library closed at 2 am but to my surprise it was really 1 am. I was shocked.

Unfortunately I am still on part 1. I have the list of professions but I don’t have all of the requirements stated.

this is kind of similar to what I said in which it takes a long time to conduct a research paper for this type of genre. this kind of research paper is guaranteed to be ready to get turned on a specific date. researching takes time

Although this was a small portion of what the writing had to do about, this stood out. It is crazy to think that someone could put 20 years into researching…

I chose this paragraph from the reading because it is a great example for the writer’s argument that research strategies depends on the specific genre that is being written about. If the writer was doing a research paper for her class on this same topic, she wouldn’t have been too successful. This kind of research takes a long time and isn’t very simple when researching information. By the time the emails were sent, the class would have already been over with and her research paper wouldn’t have been successful in due time.

Although I am not too fully aware of these two words, I think discourse community means involvement and discussion with others around you about different topics. Discourse analysis i predict is a discussion and critiquing of a certain topic with others or by yourself.
